Greek Associations in Constantinople

Abstract

The establishment of the Greek Philological Association of Constantinople in 1861 has been recognized as the beginning of the social and cultural awakening of the unredeemed Hellenism of the Orient and has been followed by the establishment, organization and functioning of several other associations under the name of societies, brotherhoods, guilds, unions, reading rooms and clubs.
