Osmanlı - Safevi Mücadelesinde Askeri Harekat Alanı ve Muharebeler: 1578 - 1590

Abstract

Osmanlı tarihinin uzun soluklu ve yorucu savaşlarından biri olan 1578-1590 Osmanlı-Safevi Savaşı, siyasî, askerî ve sosyo-politik özellikleri açısından büyük bir önemi haizdir. Osmanlı-Safevi ilişkilerinin düzelmeye başladığı bir anda birçok farklı sebepler neticesinde patlak veren savaş, Osmanlıların Kafkaslarda Gürcistan'dan Hazar Denizi'ne kadar olan bölgeyle Ermenistan ve Güney Azerbaycan sahalarındaki fetihleriyle son bulmuştur. XVI. yüzyılın sonunda dahi gücünü ve manevra kabiliyetini koruduğunu ispat etmiş olan Osmanlı ordusunun Safevilere karşı verdiği başarılı mücadele sonrasında Osmanlı Devleti doğuda daha önce ulaşamadıkları sınırlara ulaşmıştır. Bu savaş sırasında meydana gelen muharebeler, Osmanlıların XVI. yüzyıldaki savaşma anlayışlarına dair önemli izler içermekte ve bu izler bize Osmanlıların dünyadaki askerî teknolojik ve taktiksel gelişmeleri yakından takip ettiğini göstermektedir. Daha önce bu açıdan araştırmaya tabi tutulmamış olan 1578-1590 Osmanlı-Safevi Savaşı, bu çalışmada, dönemin kaynakları yoluyla coğrafî ve askerî şartlar çerçevesinde incelenmiştir. Elde edilen bulgular sayesinde de "Osmanlı savaş nizamı"na dair yeni sorular ve yeni yorumlar ortaya konmaya çalışılmıştır.

The Ottoman-Safavid War of 1578-1590, which was one of the long-lasting and tiring wars of the Ottoman Empire, has a crucial importance in terms of its political, social and military aspects. The time period of the war actually coincided with the rapprochement of the Safavid and Ottoman Empires. However, hostilities broke out for a variety of reasons and resulted in the Ottoman conquest of a large geography covering the territory from Georgia to Caspian Sea on the Caucasian front on the one hand and from Armenia to south Azerbaijan on the other. The Ottoman army proved that it still retained its power and the manoeuvre capability at the end of the 16th century and hence expanded its territory further in the East. The battles of this war have several explicatory points regarding the understanding of the Ottoman art of war in the 16th century and these clues indicate that Ottomans could follow the contemporaneous technology on military and tactical matters. The Ottoman Safavid War of 1578-1590, which has never been studied from these approaches, is analyzed from the point of geographic and military conditions with the help of contemporary documents. Not only can we reach fresh outlooks and comments on "the Ottoman battle system" but also we can ask novel question on that issue with the help of findings coming from the thesis.
