Non-Western international politics : insights from Islamic and Chinese thought

Abstract

Uluslararası siyasette batı-merkezli olmayan toplumlar üzerinden yürütülen çalışmalar günümüze hangi teklifi sunabilir? Çalışmanın genelinde bu soruya cevap üretmek maksadıyla kişiler, kavramlar, örnek olaylar ve düşünce gelenekleri üzerinden bir inceleme yapılmaktadır. Soruna dair çözüm teklifi geliştirmenin farkındalık üzerinden gerçekleşeceği şüphe götürmez bir gerçektir. Bu doğrultuda modern dönem siyaset düşüncesi otorite, meşruiyet, milliyetçilik, modernleşme, küreselleşme, insan hakları ve küresel adalet kavramları üzerinden ele alınmaktadır. Uluslararası siyasette batı-merkezliliğe yönelik yürüttüğü eleştirel söylemlerle dikkat çeken ve yeni perspektifler ortaya koymaya çalışan Batı-Merkezli Olmayan Uluslararası İlişkiler Teorisi girişiminden bahsedilmektedir. Girişimin uluslararası siyasetin özüne dair bir sorgulama imkanı sunması da ele alınan konular arasındadır. Çok seslilik ihtiyacını vurgulayan bu meydan okumanın ikna edici olabilmesi için sorunsala dair teklifini açıklaması elzemdir. Birikim ve tecrübesiyle teklif hususunda alternatifler sunabilecek düşünce gelenekleri kritik bir konumda yer almaktadır. İslam ve Çin düşünce gelenekleri aracılığıyla uluslararası siyasette özgün ve yeni bakış açılarının ortaya çıkma ihtimali çalışmada araştırılmaktadır. Mevcut sistemdeki krizlere ve çıkmazlara yönelik üretilecek söylemlerde incelenen düşünce geleneklerinin etki alanı önem arz etmektedir. Ele alınan düşünce geleneklerinin temel ilkelerinin yeniden gündem edilmesinin doğuracağı sonuçlar merak uyandırıcıdır. ----- What proposal can studies carried out by means of non-Western societies offer to the present regarding international politics? For the purpose of answering this question, the study will make an examination throughout of thinkers, concepts, case studies, and traditions of thought. Developing a proposed solution to the problem will unquestionably have to take place through awareness. In this regard, the study will consider modern political thought through the concepts of authority, legitimacy, nationalism, modernization, globalization, human rights, and global justice and mention the initiative of non-Western international relations theory, which draws attention to critical discourses on Western centrism in international politics and seeks to reveal new perspectives. This initiative also provides an opportunity to question the essence of international politics. This challenge emphasizes the necessity for multivocality and essentially needs to be convincing and to clarify its argument regarding the problematique. Thought traditions that have the potential to provide alternatives with their knowledge and experience have a critical position. The study will survey the possibility of the emergence of original and new perspectives in international politics using the Islamic and Chinese traditions of thought. The thought traditions that will be analyzed in the discourses to be produced for the crises and dilemmas in the present state of world order will have considerable influence, and the consequences of readdressing the core principles of thought traditions in international politics are intriguing.
